Do’s of Short Stories:

1. Keep it Short: As the name suggests, brevity is key. Avoid unnecessary words and lengthy descriptions. Aim for a swift read within 30 minutes or less.
2. Have a Single Focus: Unlike novels, where characters can evolve over time, short stories demand a laser focus. Concentrate on one aspect—whether it’s a character, setting, atmosphere, or action.
3. Limit the Characters:
Only essential characters deserve a place in short stories. Introduce them with concise descriptions and background information. Avoid adding unnecessary characters that distract from the core elements.
4. Experiment with Devices: Short stories allow experimentation. Consider non-traditional narrative styles, such as telling your story through letters, diary entries, emails, or chats. Relatable devices enhance your plot.
5. Surprise Your Readers: Deliver an ending that leaves readers stunned. A twist that lingers in their minds long after they’ve finished reading is memorable.
